Where does sloth lead?

“Idleness weakens the body and drains energy, leaving a person unfit for anything” — this warning is etched onto Pieter van Heyden’s engraving Sloth, based on Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s series The Seven Deadly Sins.

At the center of the scene stands a mill with a giant figure filling its entire interior. Outside, people prod the giant’s backside, and excrement flows from the openings — a vivid illustration of the proverb: “Too lazy even to relieve oneself.”
